Sleeve Gastrectomy procedure involves removing the lateral 2/3rds of the stomach with a stapling device. It can be done laparoscopically ( keyhole surgery) but is not reversible. It basically leaves a stomach tube instead of a stomach sack.

How does a Gastric Sleeve work?
A Gastric Sleeve is another surgical procedure, it's performed laparoscopically. You still go home a day or two after the operation, but what we do in this situation is we use a stapling device to take off all of the outer portion of the stomach and create the stomach, instead of being a large floppy bag, into a simple straight tube, and immediately the patient feels full because we have reduced all of the hormones that stimulate your appetite called Ghrelin, that is secreted by that portion of stomach that we have removed. But very importantly, if you eat a smaller portion of meal you feel that you have satiety, that you actually full after a very small amount and the reason for that is that there is such a smaller capacity for the stomach and the food whistles through that component of stomach and gives you that settled quality that stops you wanting eat again and again.
